ILLUSION PAINTING
The goal of illusion painting is to transform an interior space into a fairy-tale dream world. In order to transform the flat surface of the enclosing wall into an illusionary painted space, the figurative objects in the painting are depicted in a particularly realistic way. They allow the viewer’s gaze to smoothly transition from the figures in the foreground to the proportionally painted objects in the depth of the painting. Modern illusion painting is mainly about fictitious architecture, opening walls, domes, walls, columns, balustrades, or room dividers. Everyday objects painted life-size emphasize the impression of realism. Viewed in perspective, they reinforce the impression of the illusion of a landscape expanding into the distance.
